Unit 1 AOL Discussion

I want you to answer the following questions.

 (a) Why is it important to know the roots of this function? What do the roots tell us?

 (b) How long was the missile in flight for?

 (c) What was the maximum height reached by the missile?

 (d) After how many seconds did the missile reach its maximum height?

 (e) The early warning system alarmed when the missile was descending and reached a height of 8 km. How much time was there before impact?

Overall Expectation

OVERALL EXPECTATIONS:

By the end of this course, students will:

1. demonstrate an understanding of recursive sequences, represent recursive sequences in a variety of ways, and make connections to Pascal’s triangle;

2. demonstrate an understanding of the relationships involved in arithmetic and geometric sequences and series, and solve related problems;

3. make connections between sequences, series, and financial applications, and solve problems involving compound interest and ordinary annuities.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to last unit, Discrete Functions, of  Functions 11. This unit contains two chapters: first chapter: Sequences and Series, second chapter: Financial Applications. The time allocated this unit is 20 hours which means you need to finish this unit in almost one week. Please plan ahead and manage your time wisely.

Unit 1 Chapter 2 Decription

Chapter 2: Equivalent Algebraic Expressions and Quadratic Functions, Learning Goals:

 • How to add, subtract, multiply and divide polynomials and rational expressions using algebra tools such as the distributive law and factoring

• How to determine non-permissible values for a given expression

• How to convert between entire radicals and mixed radicals (e.g. 24 = 2 6 ) • How to simplify expressions containing radicals

• How to find the optimal (maximum or minimum) value of a quadratic function by completing the square, by partial factoring.

• How to solve (find the roots of) a quadratic equation by factoring or quadratic formula

• How to determine the characteristics of the roots of a quadratic function using the discriminant

 • How to determine the point(s) of intersection between given linear and quadratic functions

 • How to solve problems involving quadratic functions

Unit 1 Overall Expectations

Overall Expectations:

1. demonstrate an understanding of functions, their representations, and their inverses, and make connections between the algebraic and graphical representations of functions using transformations;

2. determine the zeros and the maximum or minimum of a quadratic function, and solve problems involving quadratic functions, including problems arising from real-world applications;

3. demonstrate an understanding of equivalence as it relates to simplifying polynomial, radical, and rational expressions.

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the first unit of the course Functions 11. This unit contains two chapters. The time allocated to unit 1 is 25 hours which means you need to finish this unit in slightly more than one week. Please plan ahead and manage your time wisely. New words Unit 2

Hi,

There are numerous new words in unit 2.  I want you to add at least five new words to the glossary by the end of this unit. Your assessment won't be marked if you don't complete this assignment. Here are some examples of the new words:

Decay

Growth

Exponential
